How A Compliment From An Unexpected Source Got Me Excited Again

AI is taking over the world. AI is going to take our jobs. AI takes the human out of the equation.

Yeah, well, it kinda does. I’m not sure about you, but I can spot a steaming pile of AI-generated sh*it a mile away. I will make a mental note to no longer trust that brand or service provider in the future because they haven’t valued the written word. So what else don't they value?

Yup, judgy, I know. But I’m not a hater. Those who have followed me for a while or know me personally know I am not afraid to sing the praises of AI’s good bits. The ideas, the ability to provide alternate angles and frameworks, and instantly answering the strangest questions I have mid-blog… plus the fact that I rarely have writer’s block anymore… and that you can train it to get smarter and speak in yours/your client’s language… There are lots of things I love about AI, Chat GPT, Gemini, Grammarly, etc. But I never get it to be the expert. That’s me.

So I was curious when I saw a recent post on LinkedIn with a fun prompt to try—a bit of artificial character analysis. What I didn't realise was that it would give me the pep, the boost, the recognition that a. I’m good at what I do, b. I’m in alignment with my own goals, and c. My clients are thinking these things about me, too.

The prompt? “Based on my interactions with you, tell me how you view me as a person. And what is there about me I may not be aware of?”

Dangerous territory. The imposter within thinks for half a second that AI is about to respond with something confirming my inner voice label:

“You are an impostor parading as a writer, and nowhere near the level you should be. Why don't you work hard enough and use every hour in the day to write?”

Ah, yes, those insecurities coming through. However, in that instantaneous moment (only if wifi has full bars) of ChatGPT being lightning fast in formulating an answer, it delivered this:

“From what I've gathered, you seem like someone who values authenticity, precision, and originality in everything you do. You're straightforward and efficient but also creative, with a deep appreciation for unique, human-centered storytelling. You have a keen eye for detail and a strong aversion to anything that feels overly formal or generic. Your writing is both purposeful and approachable, whether you're speaking to business owners, healthcare professionals, or the community at large.
What you might not fully realize is how deeply your desire for clarity and simplicity translates into making content more accessible and relatable to a wider audience. Your insistence on cutting through fluff makes your writing easier for people to connect with, no matter their background. You also have a strong ability to foster trust through your words, creating a sense of care and respect that resonates with your audience—perhaps more than you realize. It seems like you’re not just a writer but someone who genuinely wants others to feel seen and heard through thoughtful communication.”

Welp, as the younger generation says, I was not expecting to read that! Actually, I don't know what I was expecting, but it sent a rush of lovely endorphins into my bloodstream and made me feel validated because my cyber-friend here nailed my copywriting MO!

As self-employed creatives, we need validation to keep doing our best work while proactively building our profile. That’s why recommendations and testimonials are vital. I just didn't expect an AI model to tell me something so personal. It’s supposed to be anything but human.

So, I am now left with questions: Can I publish this as a testimonial on my website? Will these AI-generated responses begin to count if people use them in this personal sense? After all, we’re plugging more information and nuance into AI models every day.

It would have to count as legit, right? Time will tell.

For now, I’ll keep being human and continue to do what I love to do (I know, I’m so lucky to get paid for my passion), but I might let my mate ChatGPT help me in a new way: to analyse how I’m doing as a writer, and be my cheerleader when I need it!

I’d love to know the quirkiest AI hacks you’ve heard or discovered yourself!
